And How To Avoid Charlatans

Amid millions of psychic readers who claim to have the answer to every question, know your future, and be in tune with the spiritual wisdom of the ages, finding a good psychic can be a monumental and often frustrating task.

The good news is, there are several easy ways to identify and differentiate between good psychics who look out for your best interests, and unethical readers who rely on two things - blind trust, and your ability to write a check.

Good Psychics Have Strong Ethics

  1. The answer to a question should not in any way violate the rights of another person. This includes the right to privacy. In other words, the reader should never disclose someone else's thoughts to you without that someone's express permission.
  2. The answer to a question should not cause you or another to live in fear of the future. Even if a reader were skilled enough to foresee a death, for example, the risk of helping you create a self-fulfilling prophesy would be far too great for an ethical psychic to take.
  3. The answer to a question should not incriminate someone unless you have solid proof of the misdeed. For example, a spouse suspected of cheating is innocent until proven guilty; a good reader would never chance being wrong on a matter of such grave importance, and with so many possible negative consequences. The reader may refer you back to your own instincts or the evidence provided by a private investigator, friend, or family member, but should never answer such a question directly.
  4. A skilled psychic should never attempt to diagnose an illness or physical condition, but instead encourage you to seek out a medical professional. By the same token, a skilled reader should never give legal advice unless said advice is offered from personal experience and clearly stated as only an opinion.
  5. Great psychics teach you to rely on your intuition and personal wisdom, not on coming back for more readings every time you have an important question. A good psychic's ultimate goal is to set you on your own path, unimpeded by the necessity to double-check every decision with the spirit realm.
  6. A truly gifted psychic should never tell you that he or she has vitally important information for you, but only if you're willing to pay for the knowledge. If it were indeed that significant, the last thing that would keep a conscientious reader from helping you is money.
  7. Genuine psychics do not try to convert you to a new religion or make you feel guilty about being part of a different faith or belief system. If what you're being told reeks of religious high-horse and you find yourself blasted with threats of some version of hell - unless you acknowledge a divine deity other than the one you currently believe in - abandon ship. You didn't come to be pelted by scripture.

Good Psychics Do Not Deal In Smoke And Mirrors

  1. If a psychic offers to create a spell or curse aimed at a specific person, run the other way. Not only is this practice highly unethical, but it also imposes upon the free will of another human being. It's bad karma all around - and it doesn't work.
  2. An ethical psychic will not attempt to sell you potions to heal a physical or psychological ill. Many herbs and plants are poisonous when taken in the wrong dosage, or when taken by people suffering from other conditions or already on medication. Stay safe. Only your doctor is qualified to prescribe what you need.

Good Psychics Aren't Afraid To Offend You

  1. Sometimes, your attitude toward someone or some thing will be less than ideal. A good psychic will tell you as much and give you a gentle push toward self-improvement. Remember, a great psychic wants you to succeed in all areas of your life. Occasionally, that requires a slightly harsher brand of love.
  2. If you committed a misdeed or serious wrong, a courageous reader won't be afraid to let you know that you screwed up. This isn't about judgment, but about accountability and holding yourself to a higher moral standard, so that you may avoid similar mistakes in the future. Be wary of the reader who tells you only what you want to hear and paints you in only the most flattering light regardless of what you confess.

Tips

- Avoid psychic hot lines. Chances are the best readers have their own practices and charge a flat fee (or nothing at all) rather than several dollars a minute.

- If you feel uncomfortable with the information you receive, remove yourself from the reading. Negative energy is a palpable thing, so rely on your gut to tell you when someone deserves your trust.

- There really is such a thing as a certified psychic, but do your research - for every one genuine agency, there are thousands of psychic mills willing to sell certificates to anyone with a check book. Also, please remember that being certified doesn't guarantee a great psychic, and that there are thousands of uncertified readers who are staggeringly talented.
